MAY DOROTHY TAYLOR
Date of Passing: Dec 30, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAY DOROTHY TAYLOR On December 30, 2005 at Victoria Hospital with the same strength and dignity in which she lived. May left great teachings and wonderful memories for husband Jim; children, Sandra Luczak (Erik), Clive (Lynelle) and Neil; sister-in-law Ethel; grandchildren, Bonnie (Andrew), Amie and James; great-granddaughter Olivia; and relatives in England and Australia. Born December 2, 1922 in London, England, she grew up in Chadwell Heath Essex, before leaving to join the Women's Royal Naval Service with HMS Raleigh in East Cornwall. True to her nature, her sense of duty and responsibilities always came first. Only one month earlier, she lost her only brother Signalman William A. Speirs in the sinking of the HMS Dasher. After 50 years the British government released secret documents that allowed May to learn the true story of the sinking so that she could travel to a permanent memorial and pay respects. Following 3 years of duty May was reunited with the love of her life Jim. They married in April 1946 and have been best friends ever since. In 1948 they said goodbye' to family to create a new and better life in Canada. From Southampton they travelled by converted troop carrier to Halifax, and then by train to Alberta. In 1965 the family moved to Winnipeg. She travelled to London in 1977 to bring her mother to join the family home. May's labour of love was building a happy, supportive and healthy household. Always there, always caring, and always teaching life lessons. Her favourite place was the home. She loved to sew, knit, cook and do crosswords and was always at the door - seeing all off for the day and warmly greeting us home. She loved family vacations, playing bridge, reading, travelling and golfing with Jim, and watching her children and grandchildren grow and succeed. She was also a loyal fan of Jack Nicklaus, the Blue Bombers and Blue Jays, huddling often with family to watch sports on TV. May was a member of the IODE and gave hundreds of hours of service. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, social workers, volunteers and attendants in Emergency Observation and on the 5th floor of Victoria Hospital. Juanita, you were mom's angel on earth'. Thank you to May's IODE, golf, travel and bridge colleagues, neighbours and friends that contributed to her stating in her last hours that she had enjoyed a wonderful and full life'. She asked us to thank all that visited and sent wishes as well as Dr. A. Kaufmann for family support in time of need. In lieu of flowers, May would prefer that you remember her by setting aside an extra hour this week to be with your family - talking, listening and sharing your love. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will occur at a later date. Rest well England's Rose. You have made the world a much kinder place.
