Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANK (FRANCESCO) PIANA November 2, 1923 - April 23, 2006 The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Frank, husband, father and grandfather, on Sunday, April 23, 2006 with his family by his side. Frank was a strong and courageous man who lived his life with pride. He did so right to the end. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elda; and his children, Micky (Keith), Rick (Darlene) and Gianna (Glen). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Garrett (Sara), Gregory (Ashley), Daniel (Jamie), Stephanie, Traci and Kristina; as well as a brother and sister in Italy. Frank was predeceased by his grandson Scott Piana. Grampa was very proud of his grandchildren. They were the world to him. Frank was not afraid to let people know this fact. Frank was born in Alessandria, Italy. As a young man, he served in the Second World War. He immigrated to Canada in 1950 to start a new life. He worked briefly for the Canadian National Railway prior to starting his own business as a carpenter and general contractor. Many structures erected by Frank dot the city and Manitoba cottage country. Frank was very involved with the Pirates Community Club and the Transcona Minor Hockey Association. In his later years, he was an active member of the Alpini Group. Frank loved sports, especially his hockey during the winter and football in the summer. During the warm months of the year, Frank could be found tending his garden in the backyard. He loved to prepare his specialties in the kitchen with ingredients he harvested from his gardening efforts. In accordance with Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place. A mass celebrating Frank's life at St. Joseph the Worked, 505 Brewster St. on Friday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Associazione Nazionale Alpini. A private family interment will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Sleep well Grandpa. Ciao Nono.
