JEAN BERNICE PENNY On Monday, April 24, 2006 at the Selkirk District General Hospital, peacefully and surrounded by her family, Jean passed into the arms of her saviour the Lord Jesus. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Bill (56 years of marriage); six children, Dennis (Peggy), Pat (Kas), Art (Bonnie), Gail (Dale), Lorna (Dave) and Gordon; eight grandchildren, Pam (Graham), Matthew, Jennifer (Dan), Adam Candice, Russell, Anna, Jessica and Steven along with many nieces and nephews. Jean was born in Meleb, MB August 11, 1930, the youngest of 10 children, she was predeceased by her parents, Sophie and Nick Hurrie as well as her brothers and sisters, Bill, Frances, Mary, Henry, Mike, Jessie, Walter, Frank and Victoria. Mom was very fortunate to live her life on the family farm, she loved the farming way of life and accepted the benefits and challenges that came with farming. She was a very hard worker who would perform any chore on the farm that was required with limitless energy. She always awoke early in the morning before anyone else and she treasured that as her quiet time. She loved every aspect of nature and her country surroundings, the birds, animals and especially her family pets. She was an avid weather watcher, listening intently everyday to the weather reports and watching the changing skies. She was very grateful to experience the changing seasons of Manitoba and each season had special meaning to her in her many activities on the farm. In addition to being an avid gardener, Mom enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking and cooking. Mom's greatest passion was for the love her family, her primary concern was that each person be happy. Mom was always a stay at home Mom and Baba and it was the biggest job anyone could do in a lifetime, in times of need we always knew where she was and that she would be there for any one of us. She had an exceptionally positive and enthusiastic personality and reflected that to each of her children and grandchildren in many special ways. She had a great sense of humour, was a great listener, the family comforter and the command center for family communications. She delighted in the opportunity to gather with family and friends, the rumble of conversation and laughter of a house full of people brought her the greatest joy. In addition to their family Mom and Dad loved the fellowship and friendship of many special friends, with whom they entertained, visited and travelled with over the years. Mom insisted that their home always be open to all people, she often invited in passersby in need who were stranded on a country road, she often had visitors stay with them for long periods of time, and nobody every left her home hungry or thirsty. She loved all people, and all the wonderful things that God put on this earth for us to enjoy. Specials thanks to Drs. Demsas and Lindenschmidt, Selkirk District General Hospital Emergency Medical Officers, the Nursing Staff of the Medical, Palliative Care, and Emergency Units, Diagnostics Services, Paramedics, Pharmacy Services, Jim from Rana Medical, Home Care Nurses and Attendants, Tish and Val for their compassion and care.
