EARLE ROFTEN JELLY Peacefully, with his family at his side, Earle Roften Jelly, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many, departed this world to be with the Lord on April 19, 2006 at the age of 75 years. Earle is survived by Fay, his beloved wife of 42 years; his daughter Alison (Kevin) Gerber of Texarkana, TX; son David (Liane) Jelly of Ottawa, ON; his mother Lalie Jelly (103); of Middlechurch Home in Winnipeg and sister Theo (Norman) Gordon of Winnipeg MB; five grandchidren to their Bumpa , Jacob, Joshua and Matthew Gerber of Texarkana and Michael and Gabrielle Jelly of Ottawa; numerous nieces and nephews; and many cherished close friends. Earle was predeceased by his first wife Joan Preece in 1961 and his father Baker Jelly in 1977. Earle was born in Whitewood, SK in 1930. He attended school in La Riviere, Snowflake and Petersfield, MB. High school was completed in Selkirk, MB by train from Petersfield. Earle was the third generation of railroaders in his family beginning with his grandfather Richard Roften Jelly in 1891 and then his father, Baker Lyle Jelly in 1918. Earle started with the CPR in Kemnay Manitoba, then worked in Brandon as telegraph day operator from 1951 to 1964. Earle married his wife Fay on April 11, 1964 and they moved to Souris, MB where they still reside since his retirement in 1988. Earle loved to spend time with his family, to read, write letters to friends and share stories and history. He was dedicated to the research of his family's genealogy over many recent years. Earle found great enjoyment in aviation. He earned his private pilots license in 1961 and has since amassed a large collection of literature on the Second World War aviation and history. He loved the railroad, golfing, woodworking and cooking. He enjoyed cooking his favourite comfort foods and he welcomed any opportunity to share special meals with family and friends. In remembering Earle, we will recall with a smile, a loving, kind, patient and gentle man. He was so easy to love, easy to please and easy to be with. For all he gave to his family and friends, we find ourselves incapable of doing justice to the love we feel for him in such grand unmeasureable proportions with mere words alone. We pray that the love of God will comfort all who knew him, and are comforted ourselves, knowing Earle (Dad) has gone home. Donations may be made in Earle's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermott Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, Souris and Glenwood Foundation, Souris, MB R0K 2C0, St. Lukes Anglican Church Memorial Fund, Souris, MB R0K 2C0.
