MARIJA CVITAK (nee MEIC-SIDIC) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Baba and Great-Baba on May 2, 2006 with family by her side, at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her son Juraj and her partner of 14 years John. Marija is survived by her daughter Mira (Bob); daughter-in-law Ljubica; grandchildren Lidija (Joe), Christopher (Michelle), Michael (Renata), Greg (Melody), Anne (Vinko), great-grandchildren, Tatiana and Justin, Alexandra and Ethan; Kayden and Kennedy and Mikayla; nephew Joe (Carol) and children Derek and Nicole; best friends, Slavica and Marija Cindric and many extended family and friends in Canada and Croatia. Marija was born in Duga Resa, Croatia in January 1921 to parents Anton and Magda. Her schooling focused on becoming a seamstress in the garment industry which would become a lifelong career. On May 1, 1961 she immigrated to Canada with her daughter Mira where she settled in Winnipeg and established a life for herself and her family. She raised two children on her own and helped raise her grandchildren or any other family member that needed her. Marija loved baking and cooking. She was never one to use a recipe. She made the best chicken soup, pita madarica and strudel. Marija had a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was always ready to tell a tale, some true, some not so true. But she was always ready with a story in hand. Baba embraced her Croatian heritage, but became a true Winnipegger. She loved the city and taught her grandchildren to appreciate it, through bus rides to downtown and shopping adventures at Eaton's. Later in life her world centered on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them how to sing, dance, and make paper airplanes and especially the magic finger tricks. She had a way with children and they all adored her. Baba's greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends. They will always cherish the wonderful memories and their special time spent with Baba . She was a remarkable, wise woman who loved life and friendship and who was the heart and soul of her family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the friends and staff of Kin Place in Oakbank, the Unit 3 staff of Seven Oaks Hospital, Sister Jeannine Corbeil and staff at St. Boniface Hospital and all the friends she made along the way. Prayers will be held Friday, May 5, 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Funeral service to be held Saturday, May 6, 11:00 a.m at Glen Eden Funeral Home, Internment to follow. Reception at St. Nicholas Tavelich on 2688 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 Main St. 338-7111 Family and Friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolences at www.gleneden-mb.ca
