GORDON H. DOWN Suddenly and unexpectedly, after a brief illness, Gordon Down, aged 79 passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by his parents, Sydney and Marjorie; sister Kathleen Gillespie; brothers, Jack and Ronald; Gordon will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Valerie; children, Russell (Debbie), Loreen (Ron) Beckett, Kelly (Jacob Hes) and Jason (Angie); grandchildren, Peter, Kelly, Matthew, Nicholas, Christopher, Molly, Wesley and Rebbecca; brothers, Russell (Jill) and Bruce (Sheila); and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was born and raised in Winnipeg and worked the majority of his career at United Grain Growers, retiring in 1987 after 34 years of service. Gordon and the family enjoyed many camping vacations all across Canada and more recently, enjoyed family get togethers at their place in Petersfield and golfing with his brother Bruce at Victoria Beach. He and Val enjoyed travelling and especially the brief trips to Thief River Falls, where although not a gambler, Gordon enjoyed playing the nickel machines. A special thank you to the staff of the St. Anne Hospital for the excellent care provided to Gordon. Cremation has taken place. Gordon will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
