Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET (VALERIA) ROSS Violet (Valeria) Ross passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2006, in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her husband Albert; her brother Joey; and her sisters, Louise and Marion. She is survived by her sisters, Tina in Merritt, BC and Stella in Windsor, ON; by nieces, Dawn, Darryle and Tammy; and by nephews, Robert and Bill. In her youth, Violet was active in high school sports, excelling in track, basketball and baseball. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf, bowling, curling and attending Blue Bomber football games. In 1984, as a former member of the Winnipeg Olympias, she was inducted into the Manitoba basketball hall of fame. In addition to sports, her other passions included the arts and extensive travelling. After the sudden, accidental death of her husband in 1949, Violet returned from Halifax to Winnipeg where she resided for the rest of life. During that time, she experienced good times with gratefulness and adversity without complaint. She was employed by the United Grain Growers for 28 years. Her friends were impressed by her gentleness, her concern for others and her generosity. She was blessed with a cheerful disposition that served to enrich the lives of everyone that knew her. She also cared for animals and was a faithful supporter of the Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Her relatives express their appreciation to the medical staff on 3B at St. Boniface Hospital for their attentive care. Cremation has taken place and, in compliance with Violet's wish, no formal funeral service will be held.
