Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM DESMOND SLOANE June 7, 1911 - May 9, 2006 Devoted husband of Dorothy, loving brother of Eileen (Oliver), loving father of Edwin (Marilyn), Esther (Ron), Louise (Aaron), devoted grandfather of seven grandsons, Aaron (Jody), Ryan (Tricia), Tim (Terri), Graeme, Devon, Stephen and Brendan and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Hana. Predeceased by wife Dorothy, brothers, Ernest and Sidney and sister Nora. Born on Shamrock Farm, Clearwater, Bill received his education at Cypress School. His love of nature and country life kept him farming until age 80 within a mile of his birthplace. He and Dorothy retired to Pilot Mound Estates in 1992. Bill was well read and engaged in his world. A dedicated supporter of cooperatives and any movement in which people worked together for the common good, he supported the CCF/NDP from its beginnings. More recently the Farmers' Independent Weekly, and the Ladybug Foundation became the focus for his optimism and positive nature, along with his interest in family, community, and his writing. A celebration of Bill's life will be held Saturday, May 13, 11:00 a.m. at Clearwater Knox United Church. Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one's own choice.
