HERBERT ARTHUR NENTWIG Peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2006, Herbert Arthur Nentwig passed away at the Extendicare /Tuxedo Villa, Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth (nee James) and siblings Orville, Blanche, Marquerite, Louella, and Florence. Herb will be lovingly remembered by his son Larry and his wife Donna and grandchildren Tara and Christopher all of Winnipeg; sister Ethel Ferris of Kelowna, BC, special nephew Kent W.K. Conner of Phoenix, Arizona and other nieces and nephews. Herb was a creative and gifted thinker, and despite the significant obstacles imposed by the lack of a formal education, became a successful businessman who founded Portage Cartage and Storage Ltd; a company that is still in operation today. Herb was very active in the political process at both the Provincial and Federal levels. He was honoured with a Life Membership in the Liberal Party. He loved to learn as much as he could of the world, and he did so through his extensive international travels. Herb enjoyed telling stories of these trips, his experiences working on threshing gangs in Saskatchewan, riding the rails during the depression, and numerous other adventures he had as a young man. A Memorial Service will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff at Station 3 of Tuxedo Villa for the care provided to Dad during the time he was a resident of the facility. As well, the family wishes to extend a special expression of appreciation for the assistance the staff provided to them and the compassionate consideration with which they treated Dad during his final illness. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Herb's memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Herb by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 857-4021 www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
