CLAUDE M. F. COCKERILL November 27, 1928 - May 24, 2006 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife Ruth of 53 years; sons, Darrell (Charlene), Douglas; Ian (Darlene); grandchildren, Jess, Darcie Lee (Michael), Kristin and Kelly; twin brother Claire (Elaine). Survived also by his much loved in-laws, Florence Starkell, Dorothy (Ernie) Marks, Jean Crowe, Pat (Walter) Kotchorek, Dolly Maksymyk, Betty (Jim) Moore; also numerous nieces and nephews. Claude was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Violet; sisters, Vi (Dr. George) Raymond, Velma (Dr. Allan) McCulloch, Phyllis Cockerill; brother-in-law Edwin and Perry Crowe, Ray Starkell, and Michael Maksymyk. Claude was born November 27, 1928 in Teulon, MB and lived his early years in Gunton, MB receiving his education in Gunton and St. Johns College. He and his father opened a general store business in Sanford in 1952. While living in Sanford he married Ruth. Here Darrell and Doug were born. Moving to Selkirk in 1959 where a third son Ian Claude was born. In Selkirk he enjoyed and was very proud of many years of dedicated service with N.A.L., Manager of Chieftain Hardware and General Manager of Midway Homes for Western Canada, retiring in 1996. We cherish and celebrate many memories of Claude's life. The satisfaction he felt in the friendships he made and the community service he was able to provide through his memberships at Christ Church, Lisgar Lodge #2, Khartum Shriners (Vintage Car Unit), Selkirk Volunteer Fire Dept., Charter member of the Teulon Golf and Country Club and the Royal Canadian Legion #171. Claude was an avid sports person especially enjoying many years playing baseball and hockey. In later years watching his favourite sports. His love of travel took he and Ruth on many wonderful holidays around the world. His greatest joy was his family. Particularly his children and grandchildren where he found great pride and enjoyment. Always full of colorful stories he would entertain all who listened with recollection of his life experiences. Who can forget his stories about all the antics with his twin brother Claire and friends. His stories were countless and so very memorable. Claude touched many hearts and he was blessed with a legion of friends from both near and far. The help and support he received during his long battle has been truly remarkable and will always be remembered and appreciated by his family. Claude's family would like to extend gratitude and appreciation for the many acts of kindness and support through the many years of Claude's decline. A special thank you to the doctors, medical staff and all those whom aided him especially in the last few months at Tudor House. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Claude's memory may be made to the Christ Church Anglican, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB, R1A 0T7, or a charity of choice. Respecting Claude's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Monday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Christ Church, Selkirk with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating.
