F. HAZEL MERRY It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Hazel Merry, on the second of June 2006 at the Victoria General Hospital. After a sudden illness Hazel succumbed to complications of a previously unrecognized cancer. The family is relieved that she was able to live her life fully to its end and departed peacefully with her family at her bedside. Hazel will be greatly missed by her husband Colin of 45 years of marriage, her children, Andrew (Ming-Hui Fan); Patricia (Jordan Charles), grandchildren Joshua and Evan; Stuart (JiangJing), grandchildren Siobhan and Iain, family and friends in England, Canada and elsewhere. On January 16, 1932, Hazel was born in Lancashire, England to Joseph and Florence Adderley. She was greatly influenced by the experience of growing up during the Second World War. After finishing school she lived and worked in Denmark before returning to the UK for further education, later working in laboratories at ICI and Giegy. Hazel married Colin in 1961 and immigrated to Canada in 1964, initially to Regina from which they moved in 1966 to Winnipeg where she made her life as a mother. Canada became her home though she maintained close ties with her extended family in the UK. Hazel became very involved in her community first through her children in Brownies, Guides and Scouts then later in life through service and outreach groups such as Meals on Wheels and Pregnancy Distress Services. In her retirement Hazel enjoyed an active social life with her friends, many of whom were longstanding from her earlier community activities. Her grandchildren were the greatest joy of the latter years of her life. Hazel's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Margaret's Anglican Church, 160 Ethelbert Ave. at Westminster Avenue. According to her wishes her ashes will be scattered in the Garden of Remembrance in Cleveleys, Great Britain. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Victoria General Hospital Foundation (477-3513), 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8 or a charity of your choice. Hazel's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 4665
