WILLIAM SOLOHUB April 4, 1909 June 12, 2006 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of William (Bill) Solohub, aged 97, at St. Joseph's Residence in the early morning hours of June 12th. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 71 years, Anne; his children, Robert (Iona) of Minneapolis, Jim (Sandra) of Calgary, Joan (Bernie) Atamanchuk of Winnipeg. He also leaves his grandchildren, David (Nancy) Solohub of Minneapolis, Jill (Rob) Slivinski of Calgary, Claire Solohub of Denver, Todd Atamanchuk and Kristen Atamanchuk of Winnipeg and much adored great-granddaughter Katherine of Minneapolis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Ukraine. Bill was predeceased by his parents Semen and Katherina, three sisters and two brothers in Ukraine and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in Canada and Ukraine. Bill was born April 4, 1909 in Pavliv, Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada in May 1928 and, through hard work and determination, made a wonderful life for his wife and family. On June 8, 1935 Bill and Anne married and had 71 great and loving years together. This was a match made in heaven. He was a very proud man - proud of what he was able to accomplish to make a better life for himself in Canada, proud of his wife, and the wonderful accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was a tailor by trade and he was a partner and owner of Parker's Ladies Wear in Winnipeg and Thunder Bay for 40 years until his retirement. After retirement Dad continued to work at the Manitoba Theatre Centre, Costume Department. He was very active in the Ukrainian community - life member of St. Nicholas' Church Men's Club; life member C.U.A.C.; member for many years of Ukrainian Canadian Professional Business Men's Club and Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers. He loved socializing with his friends and relatives, and had a keen sense of humour. His favourite pastimes over the years included playing bridge, curling, the cottage at Grand Beach, watching his vegetable garden grow and smoking a good cigar. He was a keen sports fan and loved making a wager with his grandson. In later life, he looked forward to meeting his buddies at Garden City Shopping Centre for coffee. Bill and Anne loved to travel. Over the years they travelled to Asia, Europe, Hawaii, many places in Canada and U.S. and also several trips to Ukraine. Whether they were visiting relatives or on a new adventure, they always enjoyed their travels. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Residence for the kind and compassionate care and assistance provided to Dad. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Arlington Street and Bannerman Avenue with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Reg Wood, Stan Hrabarchuk, David Solohub, Doug Blaschuk and David Garrity. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated in Bill's memory to the charity of your choice. Vichnaya Pam'yat CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
