MARTIN Peacefully with family by his side, on June 15, 2006 at his residence in Portage la Prairie, MB, Cornelius (Cornie) Martin beloved husband of Maria Martin passed away at the age of 90 years. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 20, with Pastor Glenn Loewen officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Following the interment a gathering of family and friends will take place in the Magnolia Reception Centre of the Omega Funeral Home. Cornie was born on January 10, 1916 in the southern farming area near Plum Coulee, MB. In 1943 Cornie was united in marriage with Maria (nee Klassen), Stating that Cornie was a Jack Of All Trades is an understatement. His knowledge in areas of mechanical, electrical and carpentry was always sought out. Besides his loving wife Maria, Cornie is survived by his four children; Bernice (Donald) Curle of Coaldale, AB, Barbara Marcotte of Chilliwack, BC, Linda (Allan) Norman of Chilliwack, BC and Tony (Janet) Martin of Portage la Prairie, MB. Thirteen grandchildren plus eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Abe Martin; and one sister Tina Giesbrecht. Cornie was predeceased by his father David P. Martens; mother Katherina Letkeman; brothers, John Martens, Jake Martens, Henry Martin, David D. Martens, Peter Martin and sisters, Justina Friesen and Betty Wiebe. Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Monday evening June 19, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Portage Evangelical Church Building Fund, 502-5th Ave. NW, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0E6 or Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB.
