Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETSY) SHORTT (nee HAAK) February 16, 1917 - July 1, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Betsy Shortt, our beloved mother and grandmother on Saturday, July 1, 2006 in her 90th year. She will be sadly missed, lovingly remembered and always in our hearts. Left to cherish Betsy's memory is her only son Terence Adrian, his wife Carol Marie and two grandchildren, Stephanie Elizabeth Marie and Daniel Terence. Her sister Adriana, and many cousins and friends also survive Betsy. Betsy was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Angus Henry Shortt (January 8, 2006), her parents Dina and Abraham Haak, brothers Adrian and Johannes and sister Janneke. Betsy was born and raised in St. Boniface by parents who had recently immigrated from Zealand in the Netherlands. She had a love of flowers and birds instilled in her at a very early age by her mother whose interest in nature and gardening would have a profound effect on her daughter's life. At a meeting of the Natural History Society in Winnipeg Betsy met a young bird artist named Angus Henry whom she married on March 17, 1939. For the next 35 years during Angus's career as an artist with Ducks Unlimited Canada, they continued their passion for nature. Betsy's love of flowers was manifested through her involvement as a flower judge for over a dozen years at international flower shows. She took great pleasure in growing and displaying many experimental flowers in her garden in St. Vital for a local seed company. Betsy's love and dedication to her husband, Angus, and his wildlife artwork dominated her life. She was his biggest fan and supporter over the years. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715
