WALTER WILLIAM MIDDLESTEAD Thursday, June 29, 2006 Peacefully, at the Lakeshore General Hospital with his family at his side, Walter, beloved husband and father passed away at the age of 82. Walter will lovingly be missed by his wife Irene (nee Gunnlaugson) of 48 years, his children Janice (David) Godfrey, Lorraine (Alvin) Kitchur, Della (Kevin) Lawrence, Tammy (Andrew) Duncan, and Garth (Trudy) Middlestead, grandchildren Scott (Pam) and Tyla Godfrey, Ashton and Kali Kitchur, Jeffrey and Emily Lawrence, Laura and Sarah Duncan, Kyle and Alex Middlestead, and great granddaughter Alyssa Godfrey, brothers Art (Claire), George (Sharon) and Richard (Bernice), sisters Myrtle Hladun, Freida (Harry) Klapprat, brothers- in-law Emil Fuerst and Jim Balness and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents Fred and Johanna Middlestead, sisters Edna Fuerst and Martha Balness, and brother-in-law, Mike Hladun. Walter was born on October 12, 1923 in the Carnridge district. In his younger years, Walter worked in various jobs including fishing on Lake Winnipeg, working in the bush camps and for the City of Winnipeg. Walter and Irene farmed in the Carnridge and Faulkner districts, before moving to Ashern in 1999. Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting with the boys, supporting the Ashern Elks and Ashern Legion; singing with the choir at the weekly hospital hymn sing, and spending time with his family. Pallbearers will be Fred Gasper, Kevin Thorlacius, Bill Davidson, Wayne Kernsted, Bill Ebbers, and Doug Webster. Honourary pallbearers will be Bob Mantik, John Sander, Colin Brown, Adolph Kiesman, Bob Ferris, and Larry Meisner. Viewing will be held Monday, July 3 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 4 at 2 p.m. in the Grahamdale Community Hall, with Pastor Gregory Saar officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Internment to follow at the Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church, Grahamdale.
