JONINA GERALDINE FRANCES FINNSON (nee BJORNSON) April 9, 1938 - July 1, 2006 It is with deep sadness, but great comfort, that we announce that on Saturday, July 1, 2006, Geraldine (Gerri) Finnson, with her family at her side, passed into the waiting arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Gerri was born in Riverton, MB where she grew up on a family farm with three brothers and three sisters. During her early years, Gerri discovered a love for and developed her talent in music with her family. Gerri's family and friends have benefited from the early nourishment of this talent through her singing and piano playing at many home gatherings and public functions. Shortly following her graduation from Teacher's College in Winnipeg, Gerri married Harold, the love of her life in 1958. Gerri built a supportive and loving home raising four children, and worked in a number of occupations including Personal Care Home Aid, Administrative Assistant and Teacher / Instructor, and volunteered for community work when she found the time. Following retirement and a move to Arborg in 2000, Gerri continued to contribute to the community through volunteer work on several committees. It gave her great joy to be able to sing with the church choir these past few years. She also provided musical entertainment with her husband for personal care home residents throughout the district during this new stage in her life. Additional focus was put into their new house in Arborg to make it a home for her family. This included many house and yard renovations, tasks which brought Gerri much personal fulfillment. Gerri was able to share the many gifts that God gave her throughout her life. The enrichment she brought to the people who knew her will be missed greatly. Her family is grateful for the time spent with her and the life lessons learned with her. Gerri is predeceased by her first daughter Allison; parents Thordur Gudjon and Julianna Bjornson; father-in-law Halldor Finnson and siblings, Valdi Bjornson, Roni and Jim Chapman, Bjorn Bjornson, Alice Arthur, (Lawrence) Kirby. Gerri is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harold; children, Donna and Armin Lach, Karen and Rob Riehl, Glen and Kathy Finnson, Kristinn and Lesley Finnson; grandchildren, Jeff and Eric Lach, Kaitlin and Kennedy Riehl, Drew and Mitchell Finnson; Alysha Finnson; mother-in-law Emma Finnson and siblings, (Virginia) Bjornson, (Robert) Arthur, Harold and Margery Bjornson, Norma Kirby, Gustaf and Betty Finnson, Halldor and Sigurbjorg Finnson. Gerri's family sends a thank you to the many people who provided so much support during the last six months. Your endless love and caring, and hours spent with Gerri when she needed comfort and companionship is a blessing that has helped Gerri and family greatly. A private interment will be held, followed by a Memorial Service at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg, Thursday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request any donations be made to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church (New Education Wing Project) OR the Arborg Hospital Palliative Care Program. Gerri, as you enter into your eternal home Sing to Him a new song; sound a fanfare with all your skill, and shout for joy Psalm 33:3. Arborg (Mackenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
