JANET GROSS (nee CATRYSSE) On July 4, 2006, Mom passed away peacefully at the Stonewall Hospital with her family near her side. Mom was born September 16, 1933 in Staden, Belgium. Being the eldest, she became a second mother to her siblings. With her family they came to Canada and here she met Walter Gross. In January 1953, she married Dad (Walter) and together they farmed in the Rockwood area until they moved to Abbotsford, B.C. to spend their retirement years. They shared many miles in their motor home until Dad's passing in 1993 and Mom then returned to Manitoba, making her home in Stonewall. Mom loved to do gardening and to tend to all the animals over the years on the farm. She was a wonderful seamstress and through the years made many clothes for her children and later sewed and crocheted for her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and loved to share many laughs with her family and friends. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Lloyd (Sharon), Clarence (Barb); daughter Donna (Dave) Sweeny; grandchildren Jeff (Kerry), Ryan, Kristy, Melissa, Michael, Danielle, Christopher, Christine and Michelle and great grandchildren Kaylea and Payton. She is also survived by sisters Agnes (Marcel) Pauwelyn, Georgette Schoofs, Yvonne (Conrad) Desender; brother Noel (Darlene) Catrysse; sisters-in-law Elsie Kenning, Ruth (Abe) Friesen, Trisha Catrysse and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Mom was predeceased by her parents Richard and Julia, her husband Walter (Dad) in October 1993, brothers Daniel and Gerry Catrysse, brothers-in-law Fred Gross, Jake Kenning and sister-in-law Doris Gross. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mackenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall. Internment to follow at the Stonewall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Mackenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements. Fear not tomorrow for God is already there.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • You're the only grandparent I ever really knew growing up. Although you passed when I was only ten years old, I'm grateful for all the baked goods, knitted clothing and occasions you can to visit us on and vice-versa. Though the span of time our lives coexisted for was short, I'm glad I got to know you as much as a ten year old could. Goodbye grandma! - Posted by: Michael Gross (Grandson) on: Apr 30, 2019
