EDITH IRENE FORREST (nee THOMPSON) February 28, 1918 July 2, 2006 Surrounded by her family on the afternoon of Sunday, July 2, 2006, Irene passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at Lions Manor Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Irene was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Earl Rolf Forrest (February 17, 1971), and her parents John and Elizabeth, and sisters Eleanor, Isabel and Sadie. Irene was the second of four girls born to Elizabeth and John Thompson. She was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. She married her beloved husband Earl in 1941. Together they enjoyed the Big Band era dancing at the Royal Alex Hotel and taking the Moonlight Special to Grand Beach. They also enjoyed curling at the Thistle Curling Club. Irene was especially proud of winning the trophy for mixed curling in 1964 and 1965. She and Earl loved to travel and spent many summers with family at Detroit Lakes. As well as many visits to Hawaii and Las Vegas, Irene enjoyed her journey to Japan and Hong Kong. In 1966, she and Earl took particular pleasure in a six-week 25th anniversary celebration in Acapulco with her sister Isabel and her husband Gordon. A long-time resident of River Heights, Irene took pride in tending her home and flower garden. A stay-at-home mom who took great joy in caring for her family, Irene was like a second mother to her granddaughter Cynthia. Irene was dedicated to her family; they always came first in her life. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Bonnie, granddaughter Cynthia, and daughter Debbie and her husband David Kroeker. Irene made many friends among staff and residents at Lions Manor with her warm disposition, infectious smile and contagious laugh. We wish to extend our deep gratitude to the 2nd floor staff at Lions Manor Personal Care Centre for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to Irene over the past six years. Cremation has already taken place. A graveside service and reception will be held on Saturday, July 15, at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. 885 9715. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's memory to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald St., Winnipeg MB, R3L 0K6. We know you are happily reunited with Dad. Goodnight Irene, Goodnight Irene, We'll see you in our dreams
