JON J. JONASSON Jon J. Jonasson passed away at his home in Arnes, MB on July 7, 2006 at the age of 86 years. He was born October 1, 1919 to Jon and Ragnheidur Jonasson of Arnes. Jon attended Arnes North School and later became Secretary/Treasurer of the School Board. During the Second World War he served in the Armed Forces with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in Canada and Overseas, returning in 1946. On October 20, 1951 Jon married Bertha Johnson of Vidir, MB. They farmed in Arnes and owned and operated a general store for 21 years. He is survived by his wife Bertha; daughters, Sigrid (Duane), Lynn (Henry), son Ragnar (Donna), and foster son George (Doreen) and their family; six grandchildren, Warren (Keri), Diana (Corey), Stefan (Melissa), Heidi (Einar), Jon and Shawn; four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jaime, Hughe, Austin; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Stefan, Gunnsteinn, Jonas, sister Augusta, brother-in-law Joe, and a foster sister Stina. The family would like to thank Dr. J. Montoedi and the home care workers for their care and compassion, as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs for their assistance. Cremation has taken place and according to Jon's wishes there will be no formal funeral service. If you wish to honor his memory donations may be made to the Arnes Cemetery. God be with you till we meet again. When I must leave you for a little while Please do not grieve and shed sad tears And hug your sorrow to you through the years. But start out bravely with a gallant smile And for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same But fill each waking hour in useful ways Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; And never, never be afraid to die For I am waiting for you in the sky This life for me is truly passed I've loved you all to the very last Weep not for me but courage take And love one another for my sake. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
