HUGHES EDMOUR FONTAINE After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Hughes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away on July 7, 2006. Left behind to cherish fond memories of Pépère are Thérèse (nee Berthelette), his beloved wife of 55 years, son Denis (Gisèle) and daughter Suzanne (Gil Cenerini), grandchildren Christian and Chantal Fontaine (Wes Wieler), and his latest beacon of joy Jabez, his great-grandson. He will also be remembered by his sisters: Marie, Yvonne, Noëlla, Magella, and Yvette; his brother Laurent as well as many nieces and nephews. Hughes was predeceased by his parents Laura (nee Joyal) and David, his brothers Paul, Adélard, Armand, his sister Louise and granddaughters Lisa and Dana. Hughes along with his brothers Adélard and Paul, served in the army during WWII which provided him a base for numerous stories to regale family and friends. He earned his living and supported his family through carpentry but his true love was his garden, especially his tomatoes. Pépère passed on his love of gardening to his children and grandchildren. His 8 year battle with cancer culminated with a five week stay at Palliative Care St. Boniface Hospital where he faced his final days with great courage, dignity and humour. Falling asleep on July 7 with those that loved him the most at his side. The family wishes to thank the staff and Dr. Loiselle for their kindness. Cremation has taken place at his request. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12 at the St. Boniface Cathedral. Interment will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery.
