DR. LIAM JOSEPH MURPHY - MB BS, PhD, FRACP FRCPC With deep sadness we announce the death of Liam Joseph Murphy, aged 56, early in the morning on July 9, 2006. Liam is survived by his wife Leigh; son Patrick; his mother Philomena; father William; sisters, Annie, Rosamund, Patricia; and brother Brian; his nephews, Monty and Alex; and nieces, Meaghan, Belinda and Nicole; brothers-in-law, Paul and Phillip; and sister-in-law Karen. He was predeceased by his sister Philomena. He loved and was loved by his family and will be truly missed. Dr. Murphy, was born in Ireland, educated in Australia and moved to Winnipeg in 1984. Dr. Murphy was Professor of Medicine and Physiology, Director of the Diabetes Research Group and Head of the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Manitoba and Consortium Head of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the two major teaching hospitals, St. Boniface Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre. In addition to a busy clinical practice in Endocrinology and Diabetes, Dr. Murphy also ran an active research laboratory and was a highly published scientist. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Liam's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 MCGILLIVRAY BLVD.
