GLORIA ZENOVIA DEMCHUK (nee NAHNYBIDA) 1925 2006 We cannot do great things on this earth. We can only do small things with great love. - Mother Theresa It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Gloria on July 13, 2006 at the age of 80. Dearly loved wife of Walter, her husband of 61 years. Dearly loved mother and grandmother (Baba) of Garry, Daniel and Jordan Demchuk, Darlene and Joel Sheinfield, Jeremy and Chigusa Gunness, Catherine and Rick Westerberg, Carol, Tom and Joshua Van Alstyne, Lorrie, Ray, Ben and Brenden Bradbury and Michelle, Roger, Kyle, Morgan and Taylor Wabick. Gloria is predeceased by a daughter, Monica Louise, in 1964 and by her siblings Stella, Steve, Tony, Mike, Peter, Ann, Marion, Wolodymyr, Martha and Vladimir. She is survived by her siblings Joe, Ethel and Julian and sisters-in-law Laura, Rosemarie and Helen. Gloria was born and raised in Arran, Saskatchewan to parents who emigrated to Canada from the Ukraine in the early 1900's. She married Walter, the love of her life, in 1945 and spent the early years of her marriage living in Arran. In 1964, she and Walter moved to Gilbert Plains where they raised their family. Since 1992, they resided in Winnipeg, most recently at Donwood Manor. Family and friends were a great source of joy for Gloria and she always opened her heart and home to visitors. Over the years, she was very active as a member and volunteer on the executive of many organizations including the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League (UCWL) and the Veselka Dancers and local 4-H and Majorettes' clubs. She had a very strong sense of community and believed in lending a hand to those in need. Gloria will be missed by many friends who enjoyed her kindness, generosity and sense of humour. She had a delightful curiosity and was a wealth of information about gardening, current events, Ukrainian cooking and weather patterns around the world. She loved her garden and took great pride in the beautiful landscape she created at her home in Gilbert Plains. Many an enjoyable hour was spent playing a spirited game of scrabble, yahtzee and dominoes. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Avenue, followed by internment at Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria's memory to the Arthritis Society. A mother holds a child's hand for a little while but their hearts forever. - Author unknown Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
