FRANK DUSANEK (FRANTISEK DUSANEK) In the early morning hours of July 18, 2006, surrounded by his family, Frank Dusanek passed away at the age of 80, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Helena. September 29, 2006 would have marked their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He is also survived by his son, René (Debbie); daughter Helena (Mark); and grandchildren, Leah, Cody, Sean, Tyler, Dana and Jessica. He also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law, Eva Kadlec; nieces, Eva Slavicek (Jan), Helena Kadlec, Julie Slavicek; and nephew Jan Slavicek. He was predeceased by his parents, Pravoslava and Frantisek; sister Jirina Dusánkova and brother-in-law, Frank Kadlec. Frank was born January 24, 1926 in Prague, Czech Republic to Pravoslava and Frantisek Dusánek. Growing up, Frank was an avid track athlete, excelling at middle distance running. Throughout his life, he also followed his beloved soccer club, Slavia Praha, and was thrilled when his son, René and grandchildren, Tyler, Cody, Sean, Dana and Jessie took up the sport. A professional accountant by trade, Frank worked with his father in the family toy business until the political climate of the country caused the demise of the company. In 1970, following the Soviet invasion of the Czech Republic, Frank and his wife Helena made the life changing decision to escape with their family to Winnipeg to seek a new beginning. For the rest of his life, Frank valued the freedoms and opportunities provided by his new Canadian home, remaining proud of his Czech heritage. For over twenty years, Frank was the Comptroller at Canadian Tool and Die, where he was known for his professionalism and attention to detail. He retired at the age of 67 to enjoy golf and many memorable trips to Hawaii, where he spent countless hours savouring the salt water of the Pacific. Along with his wife, Helena, he also fulfilled lifelong dreams of traveling to Venice, Rome and other destinations in Europe, Canada and the United States. A lifelong lover of classical Czech composers, Frank treasured the beauty of music; both as musician and listener. Throughout his life, he made time to play his childhood violin, a past time that brought him great pleasure. He truly enjoyed the complexities of works such as Smetana's Dalibor and The Moldau , but it was Dvorak's New World Symphony that would become the most meaningful as he made his way to his new world far from his native home. The family would like to thank Home Care nurses, Ann and Sheena, whose support was invaluable at a very difficult time. We are also deeply grateful for the compassionate work of the Palliative Care Staff at St. Boniface Hospital. For over thirteen years, Frank fought hard to defeat his cancer through naturopathic and conventional means. We would like to acknowledge Dad's many doctors, especially Dr. Chris Turner, N.D., and Dr. P. Czaykowski, M.D. for their care and support. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 21 at St. John Brebeuf Parish, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, with Msgr. David Ward Jamieson presiding. A private family interment will be held following the service. For directions to the church, please visit www.sjbcommunity.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
