BARRIE O'NEILL It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Barrie Michael O'Neill on July 20, 2006. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Marly, his loving wife of 47 years; son Robert (Mona); daughters, Cathy (Ray) and Frances (Brad); and his beloved grandchildren, Lindsay, Michael and Ryan. Barrie was predeceased by his father Bill, mother Lorraine and sister Connie. Barrie was born in Winnipeg, MB, July 6, 1937. He attended St Ignatius and Kelvin High School. His love of cars was the start of a life long journey. He started work for Leonard McLaughlin Motors at age 17. He was a founding member of the Hotheads and Clutchers car clubs. His numerous trips to Fargo raceways and local race events provided many fond memories. He met his wife Marly in 1955 and married in 1959. From there he worked at Furby motors where he attained certification of a licensed auto mechanic. With a want and desire to provide for his young family he purchased River Heights Esso in 1965 with a loan from family and ended his automotive career in 1987 at Roblin Park Esso, retiring at age 52. During the years of hard work he dedicated many hours to Boy Scouts of Canada. He also earned his private pilot status and enjoyed many hours of flying Manitoba and the United States. In addition they both managed to carve out a vacation spot at Lake St. George, which they enjoyed for over 17 years. Both Barrie and Marly chose their place of retirement just outside of Fisher Branch, MB. He had an extreme sense of pride in maintaining the 160 acres with a variety of walking trails, fishing spots and picnic areas. He would sit in amazement at bountiful variety of deer and wildlife, which he cherished year round. All who came to know him noticed his sense of family and undying love for his grandchildren. He will be extremely missed by family, friends and beloved dogs (Cleo and Abby). A special thanks to the nurses, doctors and pharmacist of Percy E. Moore Hospital, which in today's health care system were a shining light of encouragement. His journey has ended here today with a sense of accomplishment unrivalled. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home with Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined however donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be gratefully appreciated. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211
