SISTER MELINA TROTTIER After a long illness, on Sunday, July 23, 2006, surrounded by her religious sisters and the personnel of 3DE of Taché Centre, Sister Mélina Trottier returned to the Father at the age of 93 and 72 years of religious profession. Born in St. Norbert, MB, on February 12, 1913, to Elie Trottier and Georgina Kenny, Sister Mélina belonged to a beautiful family of nine children. At the age of 18, she entered the Grey Nuns Novitiate, in St. Boniface, and two years later on February 15, 1934, she consecrated herself to God in the footsteps of St. Marguerite d'Youville. During her religious life, Sister Trottier devoted herself towards the sick and the poor. Many hospitals benefited from her giftedness as a nurse: St. Boniface General, Calgary, Regina, Ste-Rose, Gravelbourg, Berens River, Fort Frances and Chesterfield Inlet. For over 14 years, she was also assistant director of Nursing as well as teacher at St. Boniface General Hospital. When she left the nursing profession, she asked to work for women in need at Maison Marguerite at the Grey Nuns Mother House in Montreal. After six years of dedicated service, Sister Mélina came back to Manitoba and as pastoral associate, visited the sick at Foyer Gendreau in St.-Rose- du- Lac then at Taché Centre where she continued to bring compassion and love to the residents. At all time, Sister Trottier was generous and respectful towards each one, always ready to give a helping hand. As a woman of prayer and faith, she remained patient, humble and kind, united to her God, whom she loved with all her heart. Sister Mélina had a special place in her heart for her family and was always grateful when they came to visit her. Besides her religious family the Grey Nuns, Sister Mélina leaves to mourn her sister Lucie; and one brother Henri; and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Thérèse; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of the Word will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at Résidence Despins, 151 Despins Street. The funeral will be take place the next day on July 27 at 2:00 p.m. and will be celebrated by Father Isaie Blanchette, omi. at the same place. The Grey Nuns wish to thank the nursing personnel of Taché Nursing Centre as well as the pastoral department for their care and attention which were provided towards Sister Mélina Trottier.
