PETER SCRIVENER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Albert Scrivener at the Grace Hospital on August 3, 2006. Peter is survived by his loving wife Doris (nee Spong) of 51 years; son Martin (Chris); daughter Julie (Kelly); and grandchildren Michelle, Chelsea, Chad and Braden. Peter was born July 17, 1930 in Rowtown, England. It was there that he met and married the girl next door and his best friend for life, Doris Spong. Peter served during the Korean War as a Leading Stoker Mechanic in England's Royal Navy where he saw many fascinating new places in this world including the country that would one day become his new home. In 1966, Peter and Doris embarked on their biggest adventure of all when they moved their young family across an ocean to Canada. Fancying himself to be more of a weekend farmer, the family eventually settled in Teulon, Manitoba. For many years, until retirement in 1994, Peter worked as a welder and in the general maintenance of aircraft for Air Canada. Peter loved a good book and in retirement, embraced the joy (and frustrations!) of golf. He also took great pride in his role as a war veteran with the Royal Canadian Legion. If there was one thing Peter was passionate about, it was the water. Never forgetting the days when he sailed the high seas, Peter built his very first sail boat from scratch in his garage and named it At Last . Proving to one and all that dreams can come true if you worked hard. Too many times we stand aside And let the waters slip away Til what we put off til tomorrow Has now become today So don't you sit upon the shoreline And say you're satisfied Choose to chance the rapids And dare to dance the tide. - Garth Brooks, Victoria Shaw Peter was a kind, intelligent, and humorous man who will be missed by all who knew him. A great conversationalist, our gatherings will be quieter for the loss. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital - 4 South and to Pastoral Care Volunteers (Thank you Judy for being there so Peter was not alone when passing), as well as the staff at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital for manner in which they provided care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make a donation in Peter's memory to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
