Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD D. ROSENBLAT Winnipeg Richard D. Rosenblat was born in Winnipeg on April 10, 1942 to Lillian and Edward Rosenblat. Survived by his beloved wife of 35 years Shaylene; children, Michael and Daniel (Noni); brother Ron (Ellie) and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard passed away sadly, August 2, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Richard's incessant strength and bravery came from the mantra that courage is not the absence of fear; it is doing what it takes despite one's fear. Richard grew up and spent all of his adult years in Winnipeg. After graduating from Kelvin High School, Richard proceeded to study Business and Engineering at the University of Manitoba. All the while, he began working at the young age of 18, for his dad Eddie, at Building Products and Concrete Supply driving concrete mixers. Richard married Shaylene Prober September 2, 1971. Three years later their son Michael was born, followed by their second son Daniel in 1976. Over the years, Richard worked in many areas of the (family) business until assuming the role of President in the late 1970s. Due to his charismatic nature, perpetual smile and caring for all of those who came into contact with him; Richard had one of the most loyal group of friends and customers, that one could ever ask for. Richard extended his talents and efforts into many other organizations over the years. To name a few, he was a member of the Winnipeg Chapter of Rotary Internationals, he sat on the Chamber of Commerce, Young Presidents Organization as well as serving as Co-Chair of the Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign. Richard's generosity and kindness shined through not only in his many roles in the community but in his day to day life. Above all, he carried a quality of extraordinary love, which could be seen in his calm demeanor. Richard had a passion for adventure. He and his family loved to travel. Visiting friends and loved ones all over the world. Fishing in the Northern corners of Canada, spending time at their Florida home, or cruising the Caribbean. His favourite place to be was Lake of the Woods. This passion sprouted in 1985 when he built the cabin of his dreams. Since then, every spare moment was spent with his family at the cabin. Richard and Shaylene felt at peace out in Clearwater Bay. Those times will always be remembered with great happiness. The most important thing to Richard was his family. Funeral services were held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on August 4, 2006. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were; Marvin Shenkarow, Sam Guralnick, Josh Rosenblat, Jason Old, Linton Mounk, Sam Lazareck, Adam Lazareck, Ted Baron, Brian Hastings, Arthur Salm, David Solomon, Leonard Steingarten, Robert Akman, Jackie Simkin and Melvin Lazareck. Heartfelt Thanks to Dr. Morel Rubinger who treated Richard and his family with compassion and dignity.
