GIUSEPPE BARCELLONA On August 9, 2006, Joe Barcellona passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side at the age of 69 years. He was a beloved husband of Maddelena and father to Adele (Ron) Hummelt, Salvatore (Rhonda), Vincenza (Bradley) and Michael; grandchildren, Cindy, Terrence, Maddy, Leah, Chelsea, Kara; and great-grandchildren, Kaylen and Blake. He will be missed by his brothers, Chris (Wanda), Vince (Wendy), Biaggio (Anne) and sisters, Marantonia (Gytanio), Rosalia (Salvatore), Gytania (Calogio) and Anna (Pina). Joe was born on January 28, 1937 in Alia, Sicily. He worked in construction all his life (mainly bricklaying and masonry) and after working in both Italy and Germany he moved with his wife and family in 1967 to Brandon, MB. In 1992, Joe and Lena moved back to Italy for 3 years before returning to Canada and settling in East Selkirk, MB. He enjoyed time spent with family, especially when it came to his honeys (grandchildren). Joe loved to stay close to home and spent many hours creating, fine tuning and sharing his wine with family and friends. He spent many hours with his wife Lena in the garden, concentrating on his many tomato plants. Joe loved when family frequented and neighbours and visitors were always welcome at Joe's. He also enjoyed time spent helping other people with many building projects. Up to the time of his passing, Joe continued to work with the RM of St. Clements. Joe will be sadly missed by anyone whom he spent time with and many stories will be shared by all. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church 269 Jemima St. in Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Notre Dame Church.
