WILLIAM ARMSTRONG HANSEN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at Victoria General Hospital. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Marion of 50 years; his daughter Linda (Keith Levit), Ingrid (Blair Chamberlain); grandchildren, Griffin, Vanessa, Natasha, Hannah and Marina; his sister Marnie (Bill Karlberg); brother Harley (Myrna); brother-in-law Jim Lewis (Susan); sister-in-law Doreen McPherson; and many caring nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was preceded by his parents, Carl and Beulah Hansen. Bill was born in Winnipeg, July 5, 1933 and grew up in the Riverview area, attending Riverview, Lord Roberts and Kelvin High Schools. After completing high school he worked for the Manitoba Telephone System before continuing his education at the University Of Manitoba earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. Marion and Bill met in 1952 on a blind date with Marion's best friend to this day, Gail Wilcox (Baker) and Roddy MacCharles. They married September 8, 1956, sharing a wonderful life together at Clearwater Bay, travelling and joining with many friends and family for hoorahs, Bill the leader on the guitar for the singsongs and always with the appropriate joke or story. Bill's love of Lake of the Woods spanned his lifetime and he infused that passion to Marion, his daughters, grandchildren and friends. There are so many wonderful memories of activities of this place that meant the most to him. Every fall, Bill and his hunting chums accompanied by their faithful hounds converged on the Lake to hunt until the ice formed and ended another entertaining season. Bill had an interesting career starting with Crown Cork and Seal, Paul Moore and Co. and then forming his own company, Hansen Lamont Inc., with partners Bill Leanders, Gerry Oliver and in the last several years, Dave Meilleur. He was an active member of the Brewmasters Association attending conventions across North America. Memorial service will be held on Friday, August 18, at 11:00 a.m. in Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Avenue. The family would like to thank Dr. Maxwell and the wonderful, caring nurses in the Oncology Department at the Victoria Hospital. Bill was blessed with his own special private nurse, his sister Marnie. Donations in memory of Bill can be made to The Oncology Redevelopment Project c/o Victoria Hospital Foundation (2340 Pembina Hwy, R3T 2E8) or a charity of your choice.
