ELLA RUTH BRUUN (née HOJGAARD) January 16, 1933 - August 23, 2006 With deep sadness, the family of Ella Ruth Hojgaard Bruun announce her passing after a long illness. Her husband and children were gathered to say a last goodbye. She is loved and will be missed by Jens, husband of 55 years; son Anders (Lorraine Roch), daughter Ingse (Salim), daughter Birthe, daughter Kari (Tony Shuler) and son Albert (Terry Pearce); grandchildren, Farha, Kasim, Carolyn and Madison. Ella also leaves step-grandchildren, Francois and Margot Roch-Gagne and Jordan, Geoffrey and Jarred Pearce; as well as great-granddaughter, Sabine Ullyot. She also leaves special friend, Judy Harvey. Ella is survived by many nieces and nephews in Denmark and by Jens' brothers, sisters, cousins and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews in Denmark. Her youngest son, Albert, was a steadfast support to his mother over the past many years. Ella was predeceased by her parents, Christian Hojgaard and Johanne Lund and five older siblings. Ella was born in Denmark on the Hojgaard family estate of Mallinggaard. Ella met Jens and they were married September 12, 1951. They immigrated to Canada in 1958 settling in Manitoba to raise their family. They retired to Brandon in 1982. Ella was the heart of the family, devoting much time and energy to caring for them. She was helpmate to Jens throughout their life together. She took pride in her children and grandchildren and their achievements. She loved animals, and pets in the family were included in her circle of care. Ella was modest and unassuming but with many talents, abilities and interests. She possessed a quick intellect and interesting mind that remained alert until the end. The family's Danish heritage was honoured through the traditions Ella kept. She always kept abreast of the news in her extended families' and friends' lives. Over the years, Ella derived much pleasure from gardening and the natural world. Her pastries are fondly remembered by many. Her sense of humour is legendary. She will be missed. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brandon Regional Health Centre, ICU for their care and help in Ella's last days. Funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon on Saturday (today), August 26, at 2:00 p.m. with Lisa Hammond officiating.
