W. H. (BILL) FINNBOGASON Peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 Bill passed away at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 83 years. Bill is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nona May; daughters, Enid, Lenore (Seig Juhgblut), Andrea; son Paul (Barbara); grandchildren, Oryan, Adam, Jesse, Suzannah, David, Carmen and Eric; and brothers, Tom, Allan (Marg) and Chris (Elaine). Bill was predeceased by his parents, Guttormur and Olavia Finnbogason and a brother Paul. Bill was born May 14, 1923 in Winnipeg. He graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba. During the Second World War, he held the rank of Flying Officer with the R.C.A.F., and served as airbombing instructor in Canada and overseas. He received the Outstanding Service Award A.P.E.M. in 1976. His professional activities have been numerous and varied, including the presidencies and chairmanships of organizations relating to his work. His community activities include immediate Past President, Board of Trustees, First Lutheran Church of Winnipeg, Past President, Icelandic Canadian Club of Winnipeg, President and Chairman, Board of Directors, Betel Home Foundation, a voluntary non-profit organization that owns and operates two personal and extensive care homes in Gimli and Selkirk. Bill's distinguished career of 30 years with the City of Winnipeg, culminated as Commissioner of Works and Operations. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, August 27, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made CancerCare Manitoba, PO Box 2248, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4A6. My sympathies to all of you. It has been many years since I have seen Mr. Finnbogason or any of you but I always put him in the same category as my own father - there are so few people like them. You are lucky to have such wonderful memories. - Posted by: Pat Watts Stevens (Friend) on: Aug 27, 2006
