ROBERT STANLEY MCVETY Bob McVety died at St. Boniface General Hospital, August 30, 2006. Bob was born in the old hospital in Portage la Prairie, April 18, 1952. His final employment was in Mental Health Programs in the present hospital. Bob, his brother and sister were raised at Oakland, MB where their parents owned the general store (and sold ice cream cones) on the road to Delta Beach. A social worker by profession, Bob was a graduate of the University of Winnipeg, Queen's University at Kingston and the University of Manitoba. He worked as a therapist in the mental health field. He took pride in social work's emphasis on the worth and autonomy of all people, regardless of background, orientation or economic status. Bob is survived by his mother, Minnie Christina Moffat McVety; his brother Blaine Wesley McVety and Maureen Wilson McVety and their daughter Christina McVety and by his sister, Lenore Ellen McVety Gregory, widow of the late Colin Hugh Gregory and their daughter Meghan Jennifer Gregory. Bob was predeceased by his father Stanley Wilbert McVety in 1989, his aunts and uncles and some cousins. A memorial service will be held at Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie on Saturday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends might consider a donation to the Portage District General Hospital Foundation.
