PAUL KAMMERLOCH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Papa and Opa, Paul Kammerloch on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, surrounded by his wife and family at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his parents Emil and Olga Kammerloch; three brothers, Alexander, Viktor and Emil. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife of 63 years, Hilde; son Paul of Winnipeg; daughters, Ilse (Bob) Mclandress of California, Linda Toby (Arnie) Felker of British Columbia, Rose (Sal) Russo of Winnipeg; from his first marriage sons, Alfred (deceased) and Eugen in Germany; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren in Canada, the US and Germany; sister-in-law Maria Kammerloch; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Papa was born on August 25, 1914 in Neu-Nassau, Ukraine. As a young man he studied to be a teacher in St. Petersberg, graduating in 1934. He taught Science, German and Physical Education in various schools across the Ukraine and Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1948 with Hilde and daughter Ilse. To support his young family Paul the teacher became Paul the barrelmaker, Paul the foreman of a Sash Door company, and finally Paul the independent business owner, when in 1954 he and his wife opened and operated their first grocery store, Peoples Meat Market on Notre Dame Avenue, followed by Ellice Grocery in 1958 and Paul's Solo on Tache in 1963. Paul had an enduring love of music which began at an early age and in his spare time he played with numerous German bands including the Melodies and the Mixers. He was multi-talented and played the accordion, trumpet, piano, drums and harmonica. He retired at age 68 and he and his wife spent every winter for 18 years enjoying the beautiful Florida sunshine. Paul felt that all his dreams had been fulfilled and truly enjoyed the Florida experience. Family to him was the most important part of life and he has passed that on to his children. He was an extremely talented man who had an incredible spirit, energy and drive that allowed him to succeed in anything he attempted and a spring in his step, humour, and love for life that will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. Paul's family would like to offer our undying gratitude to the staff of Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, particularly the staff of the North Wing for their compassionate and loving care during his stay and to the whole family during his final days. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. Viewing prior to service at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home Inc., 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2K 3S7. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDED FUNERAL HOME 4477 Main St. 338-7111
