Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOWEN JAMES WELLWOOD September 18, 1927 - September 2, 2006 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Owen, with his wife at his side on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Winnipeg Grace Hospital. He was predeceased by his infant son Craig; parents, William and Evelyn Wellwood; and his sisters, Gladys Thomas, Doris Parker and June Timmins. He leaves his wife Doreen; son Leslie (Julia) Wellwood; daughter Lois Wellwood (Pierre Michiels); grandsons, Garrett and Drew Wellwood; sisters, Phoebe MacKinnon, Pearl (Charlie) Thomas; brother Harold (Noreen) Wellwood; brothers-in-law, Al Timmins, Clarence (Marg) McIntyre; and sister-in-law Beatrice (Burke) Fisher; Aunt Marion Wellwood; special cousin Earl (Annabelle) Wellwood and many nieces and nephews. Owen was born in Rawdon Gold Mines, Hants County, Nova Scotia on September 27, 1927. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1948, serving in Churchill, MB, Winnipeg, MB, Rivers, MB as a paratrooper and instructor at the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre / Air Supply School. He was a member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment in Edmonton, AB and was stationed in Iserlohn, Germany with 4 Service Battalion. On his return to Canada in 1970, he took his release at Petawawa, ON. He returned to Winnipeg and was employed in the automobile service industry until the late 1980's, spending his last years prior to retirement with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires until 1995. Owen was an active member and past Master of the Charleswood / Red River Masonic Lodge and a member of the Khartum Shrine Unit 101. Owen was well known for his practical jokes, and his greatest joy was in traveling with his family throughout North America and Europe. A private family grave side ceremony will be held at the Longburn Cemetery, in the RM of Portage la Prairie, MB at 1:30 p.m. (CST) on Friday, September 8. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Owen's memory to the Lung Association, Manitoba (629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6) or to a charity of choice. neil bardal inc. 949-2200
