ROBERT LORNE MCRITCHIE Robert (Bob) McRitchie passed away at home on August 28, 2006 at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, son, daughter and grandson. Robert was born on January 29, 1922 in Keleher, SK. Over the next 16 years, he lived in Regina, SK, Tilston, MB and Qu'apelle, SK, as his father, a town doctor, set up new practices. His father's untimely passing in 1938 resulted in the family moving to Weyburn, SK where he completed high school. Robert volunteered for the Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. Over the next four years, he served with distinction while leading a crew of engine mechanics at Dartmouth, NS, Bottwood, NF, Shelburne, NS, Sydney, NS and St. John, NB. Robert was discharged in 1945 and moved to Winnipeg, MB where he gained employment in construction. In 1949, he undertook training as an accountant which would lead to his employment with Federal Grain for the next 23 years. After the 1972 sale of Federal Grain, Robert gained employment as an auditor with the Manitoba Workers Compensation Board, with whom he would remain until his retirement in 1987. Robert is lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He took great joy in family life and particularly in the family vacations that became an annual highlight. A private family service, following cremation, has been held. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
