H.S. ROY SMITH Our family celebrates and honours the life of a precious and great man, who passed away on September 6, 2006 with his children by his side at Health Sciences Center, after complications due to a tragic accident. Born in Selkirk, MB in 1938, son of the late Ben and Sybil Smith. Big brother to Jim, Doris, Leonard, Audrey, and Barbra. Predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Gaye (nee Lyons) in 1995. Dad leaves so many precious memories for his daughter Leslie (Dan); son David (Aynsley); and grandchildren, Erin and Eleanor Papa . Its hard to describe a man of so many talents, from a miner in Red Lake to postman in Toronto, to a left winger with the Detroit farm system. Roy served over 29 years with Winnipeg Transit, working his way up from Bus driver to Senior Chief Controller. Roy also achieved his inland waters captaincy, having risen from a humble baker's helper. He commanded boats on both northern waters and the Red River. Roy was also a hobby farmer and finally a business owner and restaurateur. Roy was extremely generous, whether it be helping at our soup kitchen in Selkirk or volunteering with children fishing for a cure, you could always count on him for conversation and a helping hand. Roy will be dearly missed and will remain close to the hearts of all his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk on Tuesday, September 12 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
