NICHOLAS MARTYNOWICZ 1912 - 2006 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Nicholas (Nick) Martynowicz in his 95th year on September 10, 2006 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 66 years, Olga and his son Alexander. Nick was born on March 9, 1912 in what is now western Ukraine. The turmoil of the Russian Revolution caused his family to be deported to eastern Ukraine where his father died in 1920. He returned with his mother and sister to their homestead in Poland in 1924 where he conducted a successful farming operation until 1939 when the Soviets invaded and occupied the region for two years until pushed out by the Nazi armies in their advance to Moscow. In 1944 Nick and members of his family were taken to labour camps in Germany and at the end of the war lived in refugee camps until 1950 when the family immigrated to Canada. He began his employment with the CPR as a section man and advanced to become a machine operator working on the extra gangs in the summer and the Weston shops in winter until his retirement in 1977. Dad's love of the land never diminished and every year the growing of vegetables and flowers in his garden was his pride and joy. The family would like to thank the 5th floor staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care. A service of remembrance will take place at Sparling United Church. The details will be announced at a future date. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
