WALTER ABRAM TOEWS February 23, 1923 - September 10, 2006. On Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, MB, Walter Abram Toews, aged 83 years of Carman formerly of Graysville, MB passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Saviour. Walter was the third of six children born to Abram G. and Agatha (Born) Toews. He is survived by four daughters, Bea (Peter North), Rita (Edwin Friesen), Nadine (Richard Audet) and Yvonne (Larry Jeffers) and by 12 grandchildren and their families. Walter is also survived by his sisters, Erna, Elda (Ben Falk), Marilyn (John Wiebe) and Mildred (Tony Beach, and their families, as well as sisters-in-law, Tillie Brown, Elvira Funk, Ellen (Neil Thiessen). Walter was predeceased by his wife Rosebella (nee Groening) in 1996 and by one grandson, Michael Jeffers. He was also predeceased by many of his friends including the brothers-in-law he also numbered among his friends. Walter and Rose served as deacons in the Carman Mennonite Church where Walter also served as Sunday school teacher, board member and lay preacher. Farming was a way of life for Walter and Rose. They ran a mixed farm near Graysville for forty years and raised, sometimes simultaneously, every kind of farm animal. Walter set an early example as a lifelong learner and returned to the classroom as a student while his daughters were in high school. He continued through to university to take his first teaching position in McCreary, where his oldest daughter was also a first year teacher. Walter taught in Wingham, Roland, Carman, Starbuck and Sanford. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 14 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carman Mennonite Church with Pastor Bob Pauls officiating. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Graysville Mennonite Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held from Doyle's Funeral Chapel in Carman on Wednesday, September 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the MCC School Kit Fund, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
