ERIKA STEINKE Suddenly, quietly and in the presence of her husband and daughter, Erika Steinke (nee Gutzmann) passed away to be with her heavenly father in the evening of September 12, 2006. Erika was born in Neugut, Kulm, West Prussia on August 18, 1934 to Erich Ernst Gutzmann and Klara Wicha. In 1944, her father went missing in action and therefore she was raised by her mother and older brother. In 1951 they immigrated to Canada and made Winnipeg their home. She married Herbert Steinke in 1957. This year in April, they were privileged to celebrate 49 years of marriage. She will be sadly missed by her husband Herbert Steinke; her son Gilbert Steinke and wife Hanna of Sherwood Park, Alberta; her daughter Iris Kornelson and husband Ken of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and her granddaughters Danielle and Mikayla Steine of Sherwood Park, Alberta; one brother Georg Gutzmann and family; one sister-in-law Gerda Krause and family and numerous cousins. A special thanks to Dr. G. Welch and the home care workers, who helped mom maker her last few months a bit more pleasant. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of God, 705 Concordia Avenue, Winnipeg with interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
