Eva was born November 23, 1924 in Birds Hill, Manitoba, and grew up in Winnipeg. She was an outstanding academic finishing at the top of her class at Kelvin High School. Scholarships allowed her to attend the University of Manitoba, where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Teacher's Certificate. Immediately after her final exams Eva moved to Foxwarren, MB to teach for a term. She then moved to Glenboro, where she taught for many years, and where she met Stewart. They were married on July 22, 1950. The city girl became a farmer's wife and soon a mother. Her teaching shifted from school to home as she raised her eight children. She was a substitute teacher throughout the area for many years, and returned to part time teaching after the children were born. Eva was active in her community, serving on the Glenboro United Church board and as a Presbytery rep. She also taught and was superintendent of the Sunday School for many years. Eva was a 4-H leader and politically she was very involved in the NDP. Mom's kitchen was well used. Besides fresh meals, she made bread, cakes and cookies. She was best known for her bread and for years she made ten loaves twice a week to feed her large family. Eva always had a huge vegetable garden - and spent many hours freezing and canning so the family could enjoy it year round. Eva was a lifelong learner. In the last years she lived with Alzheimer's, Eva continued to live in her own home for many years with the assistance of family and full time caregivers.
