Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN OBELNICKI 1928 - 2006 With wonderful memories and warmest thoughts, the family announces the peaceful passing of John Obelnicki at Percy E. Moore Hospital on Thursday, September 14, 2006. Johnnie will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Denyse, of 50 years. Loving father of Jolana (Evan) Hamrlik, Stephen (Cindy) Obelnicki, Charmaine (Ivan) Zorko and Claudine Bensemann. Proud grandfather of Janaya and Jovan Hamrlik, Larissa (Terence), Stephen and Ian Obelnicki, Zane and Mia Zorko, Brittany, Monique and Lachlan Bensemann. Brother to Mary Uzwenko, Jean (Nick) Charko, Annette Boyko and Peter (Louise) Obelnicki. Johnnie was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Dora Obelnicki; infant brother John; sons-in-law, Ron Kalyta and Richard Bensemann; infant grandson Buddy Zorko; brothers-in-law, Emil Boyko and Walter Uzwenko. Johnnie was born on the family farm near Fisher Branch on December 24, 1928. He attended Ringrose School until Grade 8 and graduated from Fisher Branch School in 1946. After attending the University of Manitoba, he returned to Fisher Branch to run the family business with his father Steve. He married Denyse Goulet in 1956. Upon his father's retirement in 1967, Johnnie was Imperial Oil Agent/Dealer and owner/operator of Fisher Branch Garage until his retirement in 1997. Johnnie's passion was baseball. He was a member of the Fisher Branch Falcons and a keen spectator of the sport. Johnnie and Denyse also enjoyed travelling; Mexico, Nevada, California, Venezuela, six times to Cuba and four times to New Zealand. Wherever Johnnie visited, he was always able to find a baseball diamond. A celebration of Johnnie's life will be held on Saturday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m., Immaculate Conception Church, Fisher Branch, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the staff at Percy E. Moore Hospital, Fisher Ambulance Service, homecare and Fisher Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Johnnie's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, P.O. Box 2598 Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4B3.
