LALAH DIANE CASSELMAN Peacefully on September 27, 2006 surrounded by family and friends at Riverview Health Centre, Lalah slipped away. Born in Brandon, MB in May 1954, Lalah grew up and went to school in St. Vital. Lalah began her working career with Manitoba Hydro in 1973 in Buildings and Transportation. During the next twenty years, she moved through various administrative support positions with Manitoba Hydro. Lalah was a continuous learner who pursued post secondary education in Labour Studies, Mediation Services and Arbitration Mediation. In October 1993, Lalah found her calling in the field of labour relations with IBEW Local 2034 where she became Assistant Business Manager. As a young woman, Lalah was active in a variety of sports and she turned that passion into becoming a well-respected breeder / owner / handler of Doberman Pinschers under the prefix Dunrala and most recently, a licensed conformation judge with the Canadian Kennel Club. Her partner Michele Czebotarenku, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Ferryl Casselman, nephew Billy (Liz) Casselman and grandniece Olivia, survive Lalah. Her parents William and Haroldine (Dolly) predeceased her. People meeting Lalah for the first time often saw a gruff exterior, but beneath that exterior lay a kind, gentle and intensely caring soul. Lalah was always concerned with doing what was right whether she was representing individual union members or participating in her other love the purebred dog fancy. Lalah was known as a judge with great conviction, high moral standards and a sharp eye. She was never afraid to take the path less traveled whether it was in the boardroom or the dog show ring. Lalah was not a person of many words, but when she spoke you listened! Her passion, commitment and insight will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her. A celebration of Lalah's life will be held Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent (at Academy Road). We would like to thank the staff of the Stroke Recovery Unit 4-East, Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care of Lalah, her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stroke Recovery Unit 4-East, Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. R3L 2P4 would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I worked with Lalah a number of years ago in Records Management. Although we didn't keep in touch over the years, I always remembered her forthright attitude about life and how she approached difficult situations. I was saddened to hear of her recent passing and I hope her family and friends will revel with the fact that she made an impact on those around her. My condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Judy Halldorson (Friend) on: Oct 02, 2006
