Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID LAWSON GRAY In Loving Memory Born: February 6, 1920 (surviving his infant twin brother,Willie) Died: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at age 86 Suddenly, David L. Gray lost the final battle he so heroically fought, for the love of his family. Dave passed away at the Grace Hospital on Tuesday, September 26. We salute you Dad - LONG WAY UP, SHORT WAY DOWN! 10 long years ago, Dave was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Audrey. His parents James and Jessie Gray; sisters, Mary, Margaret and brother Jim, and infant daughter Kimberley Anne also predeceased him. Left to cherish his memory is his immediate family, Barrie Scarrett (Herb), Jim Gray, Pat Wallis (Gerry), Geri Gray, Jackie Gray, Lorrie Sudoski (Mike). Sister Jessie Hughes (Janis, Valerie and families in British Columbia). Grandchildren who will miss their Pal , Colin Scarrett, Sean Scarrett (Savanna), Michael (Jennifer) and Carey Sudoski (John). Great-grandchildren, Seth, Avery and Jessie Scarrett. Also numerous extended family and friends in Canada and the U.S. Dad was born on King Edward Street in St. James and lived the rest of his life only blocks away on Madison Street. He was a natural athlete who loved and played most sports including baseball, hockey, football and golf. He also loved thoroughbred racehorses and owned a few winners in his time. He enjoyed friendships over the years with many people at Assiniboia Downs. He considered some as extended family including Barney and Gloria Barnett, Cam Ziprick, Clayton Gray and Eddie Russell. Dad worked for Eaton's for 36 years. During the war he served as a tail gunner on a Halifax. He was shot down and became a Prisoner of War for two years and managed to escape twice in that time, only to be recaptured. He was released at war's end. He was not short on courage. He loved hard and fought hard to the end. We remember his impish grin, his serious thoughtful gaze and his baby blues . He was indeed a warm and caring man who we'll all miss terribly on this earth - but not in our hearts. We are content that he and Mom are together again, under the same moon. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment and reception to follow.
