Date of Passing: Sep 22, 2006
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANDREW MIKULA February 3, 1916 - September 22, 2006 Peacefully on September 22, 2006 with family by his side, Andrew Mikula aged 90 years of Mulvihill, MB left us to go to his final resting place. Dad grew up in a family of 8 children. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Victoria, as well as all his brothers and sisters. Dad married Constance Carpenter in December 1945. They celebrated 60 years of marriage last December. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 60 years, Connie, his six children, Andy (Bev), John (Joanne), Myrna (Randy), Jim (Carol), Dolly (Ken), Carol (Grant); as well as 13 grandchildren, Charlotte (Kelvin), Wanda (Clive), Tammy, Candida, Tannis (Ryan), Erica (Brent), Lynnette, Andrea, Jordan, Megan, Ashley, Adam and Bryce, and 11 great-grandchildren, Tess (Michael), Bo, Rebecca, Avery, Anthony, Carrigan, Riley, Calley, Aiden, Blake and Joely. Dad lived all his life in the Mulvihill area. He was born on the quarter section directly adjacent to our home quarter, which Dad farmed all his life. Dad's work life consisted of working for CN for approximately 17 years, and with Hydro for a short time. He worked on the coal dock in Mulvihill, in the days when coal was used to fuel the steam engines on the trains. He also helped to build the coal dock in Camper. At the same time as he held these jobs, he continued with his farming. Dad enjoyed toiling in the fields, planting grain crops each year. In his younger years he was proud and would boast when he could get the crops in before the May long weekend. Dad was known for his arc welding abilities. Farmers from miles around would come to Dad to have him weld many a broken piece of farm equipment. Everyone has one true long-time friend and Dad's was Jim Sanford. They went to school together and continued their friendship until Jim's passing. Very often the two of them would be seen goin' for chicken in Dad's green Ford truck. Dad continued helping to cut hay and pull wood from the bush well into his 80s. He found it very hard to accept it when he was no longer able to perform the many tasks that farm life brings. Dad had his share of health issues. He suffered his first stroke in 1962 and a second stroke in 1985. In his later years he developed Alzheimers. We would like to thank the nursing staff at E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital for their care and for helping us to make his final hours comfortable. Your compassion was very much appreciated. As well, a heartfelt thank you to the various home care workers who provided care for Dad and a break for Mom over the last year. Your patience and understanding is appreciated, as we know it was not always easy. Cremation has taken place. There will be no service. A private family ceremony will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's memory to E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, c/o Irene Sigurdson, Box 474, Eriksdale, Manitoba R0C 0W0. Arrangements by: Arnason Funeral Homes Ltd.
