HARRY FAY Peacefully on September 21, 2006 at his home in Hemet, CA, Harry Fay passed away at the age of 86. Harry was born May 2, 1920 on McCalman Avenue in Elmwood (Winnipeg). He was the youngest of nine children born to Russian/ German parents. After leaving school early, he joined the workforce to help his family through the dirty thirties . He worked at several jobs before landing his career position in 1942 with the Canadian National Railway. It was post-Second World War when Alice Johnson, a young Winnipeg Beach farm girl, was swept off her feet at the Winnipeg Roller Rink by Hot Wheels Harry . After a short courtship, the couple married on March 9, 1946. When the youngest of their three children arrived in 1954, Harry started driving a hack in the evenings to help pay the bills, first for Northern Taxi and then Red Patch. Together the couple built a cottage at Matlock where they enjoyed the summers with their family. Harry retired from CNR in 1980 with 38 years of service. Now the man who had not held a golf club in his hands prior to retirement, was ready to make up for lost time. After 40 years of marriage, Alice passed away in October 1986. Some years later, while vacationing in California, Harry met Alverta Fronaberger and after a few more trips, the couple married in March 1991. Harry and Alverta resided in Winnipeg the first nine years of marriage, but then moved south to California in 2000. Harry took advantage of the weather and golfed each day. He also enjoyed playing pool at the clubhouse and dancing in the evenings. Harry was predeceased by his wife Alice Fay in 1986. He will forever be remembered by his wife Alverta of Hemet; son Les (Ramona) of Petersfield; daughters, Margaret of Winnipeg and Janice of Vancouver. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Michelle (Craig), Shauna and Chris; and his great-granddaughter Kate. We wish to thank Alverta, and her daughters, Connie, Beth, and Sandy for the love and care they provided Harry during his illness. At Harry's request, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family memorial at a later date.
