ELFRIEDE SCHWABL Elfriede Schwabl, suddenly on Friday September 29, 2006 left us. Born in Deersheim Germany on July 29, 1933 she, her husband Gaston and 2 sons Wolfgang and Norbert immigrated to Canada in 1960. Once arriving in Canada the family moved around from Montreal to Edmonton and finally settling in Winnipeg. While raising a family and working in the Sewing industry she gave birth to her third child Rita. Eventually Elfriede started her own successful business, Perimetary Drapery where she was eventually joined by Gaston. Though most of her family is still in Germany she shared her life with many close friends. She gave of herself freely and would always be there to comfort and help out a friend in need. Elfriede and Gaston spent the last 30 years wintering in Harlingen Texas and summering with the family at their cottage/summer home in Fraserwood. During her leisure time she loved to paint, work in her garden, travel and spend time near the water. Elfriede leaves behind her loving husband of 53 years Gaston, her 3 children, Wolfgang, Norbert and his wife Susan and Rita Leroy and her husband Bob. She will be missed by her grandchildren Christopher, Laura, Jessica, Dawn, Cassandra, and Alexander and great grand children Markus, Vanessa, and Nikolus. Also left behind are her brother Waldemar Gelhaar and sister Ingeborg Gaidosch and sister-in-law Inge Gelhaar. She is predeceased by her sister Inga Reed, and brother Rudolf Gelhaar and twin brothers Werner and Herbert Gelhaar. Funeral Mass will be conducted at St Michaels Catholic Church, 113-7th Ave. Gimli, MB on Wednesday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing be held one hour prior to. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
