HENRY (HANK) ALFRED BLAIS It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Henry (Hank) Alfred Blais on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the St Boniface Hospital at the age of 87. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Jessie; his daughters, Donna (Al) of Toronto, Judy (Wayne) of Port Stanley, Shelley (Ross) of Winnipeg, son Bruce (Vivian) of Calgary and daughter-in-law Cherryl of Calgary. He was a wonderful Poppa to nine grandchildren, their spouses and five great-grandchildren, and other family members. Hank was predeceased by his son Brian; his parents, Daniel and Cecilia; his brothers, Norman, Patrick and Daniel; his sisters, Delores and Rosemarie. Hank was born and lived most of his life in Fort William, ON. He started a career that spanned over 30 years with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). His work took his family to Winnipeg and Calgary. Upon his retirement in 1984 he and Jessie returned to Winnipeg. Hank was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 7 and the Transcona Golf and Country Club. Hank made many lasting friendships and was admired by those who knew him. Hank was a kind, generous, well-loved man with a gentle soul who always placed his family first. Our hearts are filled with many happy memories of times spent together at numerous family gatherings. He had a passion for music and a love of sports, which include golfing, darts, curling and watching his beloved Blue Jays with Jessie. His incredible knowledge and passion for building and repairing just about anything was enjoyed by all who did the asking. Not one to be idle for long, he began working at the East Park Lodge as Superintendent. His handyman skills were once again appreciated by the seniors who resided there. Our family is very grateful for the wonderful care provided by the Palliative Care team at the St. Boniface Hospital. We especially wish to thank Dr. S. Ahmed for her positive support and compassion and to Dr. P. Chochinov for his long time care. We are grateful to the many friends who called and visited Hank during his stay at the hospital. Hank appreciated the support of Charles, Bernie and Marcel. We are at peace knowing that Hank found comfort with his Catholic faith and that he will be reunited with his son Brian. A celebration of Hank's life will take place on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Park Manor Personal Care Home, 301 Redonda St., Transcona. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations be made in Hank's memory to the Park Manor Personal Care Home or a charity of your choice.
