RITA PFEFFER (nee BEATON) After a long fulfilling life Rita passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Rita was predeceased by her husband Mac in 1985, sister Vi in 1987 and brother Hec in 2004. She is survived and mourned by daughters, Janet Cozens (Keith) and their children, Meghan and Kevin, Fran Renouf (Frank) and their children, Jennifer (Robin), (great-grandchildren, Sydney and Shelby), Kim, James and Geoff (Keri). Born Oct 9, 1911 in Fort William, ON, Rita spent her childhood with sister Vi and brother Hec enjoying summers at Ignace, ON. Rita came to Winnipeg for high school and boarded at St. Joseph's Academy in St. Boniface. She returned to Fort William to care for her mother who was ill. After her mother's death she moved back to Winnipeg where she met her life partner Mac Pfeffer and married in 1942. She was an accomplished singer and pianist and spent many happy times with friends and family at the piano. Rita lived her faith in doing for others, volunteering at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital with polio patients, at the St. Amant Centre for handicapped children. She joined the Catholic Women's League at Christ the King and one of her proudest accomplishments was becoming president of the CWL. She continued to support them and received her 50-year pin, which she proudly wore while at the hospital. Above all she enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sydney and Shelby. She also had a very special relationship with her three nieces, Rita, Cathy and Susan. She enjoyed playing cards before Sunday dinners with Grandma Lyn, Susan, Wayne and families. Rita always looked like a lady, complete with matching visors. She lived in St. Vital all her married life, first at 91 Imperial Ave., then at Appleton Estates where she had many friends who will miss her greatly. The family would like to thank Rita's home care workers and CJL Catering who provided meals for her in her last years. Donations in memory of Rita can be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 847 St. Mary's Rd. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949 or toll free, 1-888-233-4949.
