JOHN (JACK) BLACKBURN MURDOCH 1927 - 2006 Surrounded by his loving family, our father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed into eternal rest to be with his loving wife, the Reverend Canon Gen Murdoch, following a brief illness at the Selkirk General Hospital on Friday, October 6, 2006. Jack will always be loved and remembered by his children, Cathy (Harold) Dalman and their children, Kirstyn and Jenna; Janie (Larry) and her children, Shelly, Camille, Brenlee and one great-grandson Kaiden; one sister Joyce of Calgary; along with many nieces and nephews. Jack will also be remembered by his special friend Gertie Tucker. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Genevieve; father Frank; mother Margaret; brothers, William, Frank, Robert, Horace, Richmond; and sister Marjorie (Hermanson). Jack was born in Birsey, SK on September 13, 1927 and moved to Petersfield, MB in the late 1930s, where the family started a mink ranch. It was during this time in his latter years, that he met his life long love Gen and were married, having two daughters, Cathy and Janie and resided in Petersfield where they were strong members of the community. The family then moved to the Clandeboye area in the early 1970s where Dad farmed in grain and cattle before retiring in 1980s to be Mom's constant companion in her many travels to Parishes around the Interlake and Eastern Beaches. Jack was a lifetime member of the Petersfield Curling Club and enjoyed many years of curling with his brothers, Bob, Horace, and Richmond, and his many other friends from the Petersfield area. Dad enjoyed his camping trips with family and extended family, both in the Whiteshell and Ontario. He was an avid card player and enjoyed playing cards with his new found friends at the Knight's Centre in Selkirk where he resided until his passing. Our Dad was a quiet gentle loving man and was most happiest to be with family and friends after Mom's passing, reliving the many happy memories that we all shared together. The family cannot express enough of our thanks to the nurses on medicine and Dr. Racette, for the loving care and compassion given to our father. The family would also like to thank our Uncle Gordie and Aunt Doris along with special friend of the family Beryl Gifford, Pastor Brad Elliott, and Reverend Mawejje for their support and prayers which brought as much comfort at this most difficult time. A private immediate family service celebrating our Dad's life will be held at Christ's Church (Anglican), Selkirk, MB, following a private interment at Wakefield's Anglican Church Cemetery (Clandeboye). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Sociery, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. Psalm 143, verse 8: Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the wherein I should walk. For I lift up my soul unto thee. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
