E. L. (TED) GREEN It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of beloved husband, dear father and precious grandfather, Ted Green, at 71 years of age. Surrounded by his family, his spirit passed peacefully and gracefully into heaven on the afternoon of Sunday, October 8, 2006. Dad was born on April 3, 1935 in Star City, Saskatchewan however soon moved to Kimberley, BC where he finished his schooling. Upon graduation Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving proudly for 23 years. It was on his very first posting that he met and married his pretty German fraulein Lydia (née Nachtigall), and they proceeded to build a family and life together in Canada and Europe at various Armed Forces bases. Following retirement from the Armed Forces Dad began a second career with the Saskatchewan Liquor Commission. During this time Dad was extensively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 in Moose Jaw, where he served on numerous committees and held various executive positions. In 1997, now fully retired, Mom and Dad moved back to Winnipeg to be close to their family. Dad then filled his time with family, friends and active involvement in the Church. Dad will forever be remembered and missed by the love of his life, Lydia; his devoted children, Dan, Sandy (Alex) Lloyd and Wendy (Dan) Scherger; the six apples of his eye, grandchildren, Krista, Jared, Jessica, Joshua, Matthew and Jenna; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as friends and neighbours. Dad was predeceased by his mother Elsie (1971), his father Ed (1993) and sadly his sister Elsie (September 30, 2006). The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care, kindness and respect throughout this difficult time. There will be a viewing on Thursday, October 12, 2006 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance in Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. the following afternoon at The Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede, 99 Turner Avenue. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either The Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede, 99 Turner Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 2S9, or the Nachtigall Bursary, in care of Lutheran Theological Seminary, 144 Seminary Crescent, Saskatoon SK S7N 0X3.
